Share dealing services
I'm looking for a share dealing service, but its many years since I have done this. I'd rather not get caught out by some new rules that I am unaware of, hence I turn to the all knowing SN community
I'd like to be able to buy and sell when I want, and not have to wait many many hours before my transaction completes.
I would also like to be able to sell my shares without having to wait for the share certificate to arrive.
Oh, and does anyone have a free live feed of share prices. Specifically Northern Rock
Let's see if we can all make a little money from the stock market's nervousness for once.

ft.com is a good place for checking prices, bbc.co.uk is also ok but not real time.
I simply use HSBC for share dealing. Its linked to my bank account, and you get £10k available to purchase shares with, so you if you see some good value shares you can jump in a purchase them then pay for them a bit later - means you dont need lots of cash just sat in your current account earning no interest!
Seems EVERYONE is buying NR shares at the mo as a takeover is expected - I've even decided to join the party myself!

TDW give an excellent service. You may also find that, like currency, though the commision charges maybe near enough the same the rates given may be slightly different.

Thats the price per share in pence. Was around 1200 earlier this year, and with all this take-over speculation I expect to see the shares bounce at least 20% on Monday, but if a takeover fell through (they did look at the being bought out before going to the BoE apparently) then you could stand to lose everything (however this is unlikely, but still not impossible)

With the run on accounts over the weekend, I was expecting to see a continued fall in the share price. I have a feeling the stockmarket was not expecting so many people to withdraw their funds.
I was thinking of buying shares on Tuesday, dunno what other think about that

so say we all buy some shares in northern rock then they get taken over what happens to all our shares? does the take over company have to buy back all the shares? or is it a case of tough luck you just lost the lot?

The company that buys them out will pay you for the shares.
