Was at the girlfriend's graduation on Saturday (Oxford Brooks). John Snow is the Chancellor and was quite amusing as he cracked a few jokes. However, after an hour of shaking hands they introduced a new chap - Sir Christopher Ball - as he was receiving a fellowship. He's quite big in education apparently.
Anyway, he appears to be an unassuming guy, but he's great speaker. People gave him more attention than Mr Snow. He gave a good motivational speech to all the graduates who were moving in to the world of teaching. His main point was that they should strive to do something that no one has done before (and not put up with mediocrity).
It was then that he told us he'd run 10 marathons in 10 days earlier this year - as his way of doing something that hadn't been done before! And get this, he's 72 years old!

Just thought I'd mention it, as I found it quite amazing. British reserve and modesty has not been forgotten is seems.
