WTF was he doing climbing into a vehicle with a hot weapon? It doesnt say whether the weapon was a pistol or a carbine but either way, he is a fool.

I guess he will get paid for it, but its one of those things, if it turns out to be his error (which I cant see it being anything but..) You would kinda hope he got SSP instead!

Probably a H&K MPx, safety is on the left side so most of the time its near the body and can easily be caught and put into fire. This happened to a friend of mine and he took it in the left foot.. and he was not a muppet - these things can happen no matter how good your drills are.
If it was a pistol in a holster it could have been a genuine malfunction.
Either way the cop is going to be in rather hot water...
