Thumbs up Congratulations To Our Young People

BBC NEWS | Education | Another rise in top GCSE grades

I am heavily involved in young peoples education from the ages 11-16 and would like to congratulate them for an excellent set of results this year - rising again.

The young get a bad press, but most (95%) are great young people and I have great pleasure in working closely with them

The human genome is staggering. Each and every year we simply get smarter and smarter. It won't be long before everyone is an Einstein

Shame they don't seem that way when you talk to them

They must be getting smarter, it stands to reason really... they spend less time at school than ever, study twice as many subjects in less time than ever, all whilst grades keep improving!

However all this extra intelligence must be affecting longer term memory, as from my experience whilst interviewing potential staff a lot of them apparently seem to have forgotten what they had learnt at school.

Hmmmm.... yes, the current educational system appears to be serving today's businesses really well:

BBC NEWS | Education | Teens 'cannot function in work'

I used to recruit IT staff, in years gone by, and as part of the process asked them to WRITE a letter - even gave them a PC in the interview room. How many couldn't spell, had no idea of grammer or simply couldn't write any form of letter??? Most of them...

Results may be improving (lies, damn lies, etc.), but they're all a text-speaking useless bunch of f**kwits IMHO.

I just heard they did away with CSE's!!!! My fab Scooby mechanic can have CSE's without prejudice, but dont want my dentist's suitability to be based on them!

Everybody is now passing 'O' levels and that with a minimum 'E' grade. Who do they think they are kidding FFS???

What a load of nonsense (sorry kids - not your fault, but 'levelling up' isnt all its cracked up to be). And what a fab job Labour are doing in nurturing these clone bright kids - so much higher achieving than us old fogeys with degrees ever were

Being an old fart, and experienced in office work (28 years), I sometime feel like weeping. I feel sometimes that I am the only person in our office that can spell. And as for geography .

We had a young lass who worked for us for a period. Could type at warp speed, but WTF is the use of being able to type at 40 wpm when your work is full of mistakes!! I want ACCURACY more than SPEED

Well I think its nice that everyone gets the same as everyone else.

Even more chuffed to think when mine go to school, they should be taking their degrees at about age 11 and out to work at 12

Mmmm, methinks it's more a case of the exams being easier. Most of the people we get from school are illiterate.

Did anyone see the 'One' show last night. Some of the team sat a 1970's O level and then a GCSE. It was hardly scientific but most significantly a mark of24% in a Maths GCSE got a grade C. Says it all

Well, yes, it was technically trolling (knowing him) but ok trolling as it warranted a response! Infraction not deserved IMHO.

It was NOT trolling if true to him - he feels very proud of the young people he works with ....... what's wrong with posting and saying so?

But, you are right, Infraction not deserved and not warranted ....

With all the emphasis on fulfilling targets set by creepy jobsworths, children are being taught how to pass exams but without getting the real education that they need to fit them up for life when they leave school. This sort of distinction as far as results is concerned does nothing to demonstrate they they actually know enough to be able to to a job or to even start a degree course. They have to attend extra classes art the universities to enable them to actually start a course!

I think it is a shameful let down for our children that they are being held up for their results purely for political purposes but to no significant personal advantage as far as they are concerned.
