House is collapsing....
Who remembers a post from me a while back, regarding the digging in the basement nextdoor to me.....
Well I got to be quick but, the worst happened.
The original thread is on this link, along with some updates.
I wont be back on the net for a while unless the house is given the all clear, so im on text, thats about it....

What were they thinking doing that?!
I remember your original thread but didn't realise it was so serious. Do you have any comeback at all, insurance etc? Any possibility of sueing them or their builders?

I honestly think that I would have killed the next door neighbour if they did that to our house. Was their work all approved etc? I fail to see how if that is the end result. Best wishes mate as that must suck beyond belief.

lol sorry about the state of the forum guys, its only a fun place lol.
How do all.... Using stupid expensive connection at Travelodge..
Good news though.. It appears its our last night here.
The concrete flood that was not expected to work has stablised the house enough for inspection and they are happy its going nowhere.
Got some other pics that I will pop up now, hopefully showing a little more.
The next few days/weeks/months are said to be quite interesting, seeing if any damage occurs to our house, how the current damage to ours will be treated, and how messy this all gets legally.
So a panic over nothing lol. 3 days out of the house, very little sleep, and im ****ed
Righty ho then....

Right, finally back home, sitting about 8ft from the collapsing wall, thankfully its going the other way and is all braced up now 
So here is the final album of pictures, not quite in time order. Main images are, but some I took on the phone (the blurry ones as pointed out lol) are towards the end.
They were later on during the first evening of it all, as the road was closed and police tape put up everywhere.

lol sorry mate I have never really explained it too well have I (too frickin tired lol)
The house with the scaffolding holding it up and the one with the extension and trench are the same house. Front and rear.
My house is to the left of it in the front on pictures. The pictures of the cracks on th floor are of the alley between the houses. Hope that makes sense
Somewhere in the region of 80 cu mtrs of concrete was pumped in to try and stablise the house, but its still left a huge gap under the house. Given th volume of clay and earth that was removed, its gonna take a lot to fill it up.
The end result is, the house has to be seen to be settled, once that happens, a 110 year old, £2m house is taken down and gone for ever. Leaving 2 of the houses remaining. God only knows what they will try and get permission for to replace it, but time WILL tell im sure.
Legal proceedings are indeed underway, from many angles. Currently its an everyone claim/sue everyone situation.

Thing is, once its been stabilised, how exactly are they going to put it back to as it was?...looks almost in possible to me as it looks like the entire front of the house has sunk by almost half a foot, suspect that trying to raise it back up will cause more damage.

Edit; ahh, just seen above posts...it sbeing knocked down.
Can I clarify is that your house or your neighbours that's falling down, as I though it was the neighbour having the hole dug underneath it, but it was your house thats falling down because of it?

The house actually collapsing is the building site NEXT to my house.
However they are keen to get the house down, and start checking and securing the footings to our house as there is damage evident. How bad is another matter.
The builders dug a massive hole under their own house, but while doing footings have come almost under our property, weakening it quite a bit.
As a whole our house is "safe" but will require some pinning, and interior work due to cracks etc.

When you're considering the legal action don't forget the future implications. If your house has been underpinned it will make it more difficult/ expensive to insure. Some mortgage lenders get VERY twitchy about such things and it could make it harder to sell when the time comes.
Trust me - we bought a house that had been underpinned 25 years ago - done as a precaution, no subsidence in the area, not moved since, and it was still a nightmare to sort out.

Cool CheersThe local authorities, planning, HSE etc have all stated they will be bringing legal proceedings against them. This will include expenses to make safe all buildings affected by the incident.
Gonna be a long road, but I will be contacting my solicitors shortly, just as soon as I get a bit of sleep, and can make sense of what the hell im talking about

).Fingers crossed the replacement will be a period replica, as you say, using the same stocks.
The whole community got together over this whole event, and has vowed to try to block permission on anything that would not suit the area and surrounding houses. Voices are loud but money usually louder.

Cant really tell from this picture but, the mud pile here is about half of what it ended up being.

The pile almost doubled in size to approx 10-12 ft high, and a good 30ft by 30ft round the edges...
Thats what was not being taken away as they dug lol

So if I understand it correctly, the people who own the house that collapsed are builders - and they did the work themselves?
