Well at 1930 or some such they shouldnt be very noticeable
We had a semi as our first house - but detached is much better - we are on the Berks/ Hants border so yes the prices are pretty much known to me!!

Older houses do not mean a quiet life. If I fart in bed my neighbour laughs
Modern houses especially wood frame seem to have the best sound proofing.

Hi I live in a 1930's Semi cant hear a thing from all three neighbours that have lived there in my time, I doubt they would say the same about me though, from the SS back box waking them every morning at 05.00 and the home cinema set up and 4 mission speakers belting out of the HiFi, theyve never complained mind!!

Dont do it Tiggs
Once you have lived in a detached house you can NEVER go back to a semi...NEVER...EVER
I have lived in 6semi's which were built 1900,1929,1956,1970,1980 & 1990.(all dates approx)
In ALL semi's you WILL hear noise from your neighbours, unless they died in their sleep, in which case the stench from the decaying bodies will fill your house...
Have lived in my present DETACHED house for 5yrs and could NEVER go back to a semi.(Was built 1991 ish)
Its great for parties, footie matches, DVD's/home theatre etc etc and NO worrying about the neighbours.
You have more mates when you have a detached(they all want to come to watch the match or DVD, have a party etc because they know you can crank up the volume)
Find a cheaper detached further out of town/area and drive the scooby more
Works for me

Couldn't agree more Tiggs, don't ever go back to a semi having lived in a detached You will hear your neighbours which means they will hear you. You just cannot appreciate the full effects of your home cinema with your neighbours banging on the walls every five minutes. Neighbours suck, however nice they are - detached is best, you know it makes sense

I currently live in a Victorian Terrace. Very large and fairly well sound proofed. Neighbours have never complained (apart from once when some one anglegrinding tiles at 11pm, but that was outside anyway!) and I've never needed to complain about the neighbours. I have previously lived in Detached houses and too be honest don't find it that much different generally... So don't be put off by 1930's semi's, oddly enough I nearly bought one, but it wasn't big enough! That said I hope my next house will be detached as I plan to build it myself.

dont do it!
i live in a 40s semi, loads of noise from next door!
even know when they flush the bog if the telly isnt on,people running up and downstairs,hoovering....the list goes on,and thats before the noisy stuff like arguments and loud music.
as soon as there is a big enough deposit in the bank we are off to a nice detached!

Ditto
I live mid terrace and when I first moved in next door had two very loud kids and the marrage from hell. I've nothing against kids, and understand they make noise. But the perants - well police three times in four months They went after a year

You can sometimes hear next door, but most of the time no unless
you have very unsociable neighbours. Big Question is do you have
a Home Cinema System. If yes then Semi is a bad idea as you can
only "Unleash Hell" when they go out.
Mine is a new house, as old as the MY00 outside in it's own little house and the soundproffing is very good. You can not expect the same as a detached though.
