I have a 42PX70 linked to a DMR-EX75 via HDMI.
Three Kings would be a good film to try out on the set up. AFAIK the extras on the DVD mention something about special film or process used. Haven't tried it myself.
I'm sorry its Sci-Fi but I watched all 3 Matrix films to test the equipment (plus I got some Tannoy EFX5.1 surround speakers) If I'm honest I couldn't see a staggering difference in the picture. Only thing that was really noticeable was how craggy and pitted Laurence Fishburnes face is but I'm not entirely sure thats just the TV performance over any real gain using the DVD player.
According to the PDF document in the link below, upscaling is used to make an original picture fit the screen by increasing the number of pixels by taking the average colour of the pixels around it. According to the guide it doesn't actually make for a better picture.

In some ways I'm happy because I did feel a bit let down by how little the difference was. I won't be buying a HD player until the HD war is over (HD Vs Blu-ray)

another reason was my old one wouldnt play all the dvds i was given and this one also plays divx as well or so im told, whatever that is
my main reason was though because it was so cheap i thought i would give it a try

i was hoping that these were going to be a good sensibly price alternative to hd players. Im not going to get sucked into gheyray so i was going to get one of these with included 5.1 speakers when i get a new lcd.

Just bought a Panasonic DMR-EZ27 Freeview HD upscaling DVD-RAM recorder (breaths). Must admit its rather good There is certainly a better picture through the HDMI connection than the (non HD) components or scart on a 720p screen (on both 720p and 1080i). Wouldn't say its super duper, but I can say its better than what you get out of a normal DVD player. Not sure if this is due to the upscaling or better connection/communications cable, either way I'm happy, as Blueray or whatever is a big nono until prices become sensible.
Can't reccomend a film though (Sci-Fi freak) - sorry

no not on cable, it doesnt come into the tv on hdmi.
well, got it connected, its quite a good picture,
i think thats down to to the picture coming thru on hdmi and the fact that my old dvd player is getting on a bit.
its only a 40 quid jobbie though

You WILL notice a big difference over SCART.
Spend the ££ and enjoy

jackos mate, the divx part of your player means you can play films/ (avi)files you've downloaded off the Internet without having to convert it into a proper DVD. basically you can get about 6 films on a 4gig disc

Only problem is I now realise just how poo the standard tv signal is.
