Default How to track down number plate owner?

I am after a specific plate. I know its on a car in Manchester, and orange hyundai! Well according to car detail check sites anyway!

Ive tried contacting DVLA and looked around number plate shops with no joy. I don't know a copper to bribe so how else can I track this down?

Any ideas welcome!

thanks
Paul

Try and bribe someone that works in car insurance. They are are easier to tempt.

Pretend to be a cowboy clamper with a PO Box number and £2.50 and you'll get the owners name and address sharpish from DVLA. Simon so naive mate, sorry. This is Big Bro time and cash is king...

Or write to all the Hyundai dealers in the area. One which supplied/serviced the vehiclle might be willing to pass on a message/offer.

As I said earlier, there is no legitimate way for you to access the owners details. The Data Proctection Act ensures that. You can lie about the owner being involved in an accident and failing to stop, but the DVLA are more likely to refer you to the Police. How would you like it if ten-bob-millionaire chancers constantly obtained your details and made derisory offers for your cherished number.....:eh?

The car databases are amazing these days. I went into a motorfactors the other day asking for an exhaust part for my birds car, the bloke asked for the car reg, so I gave it him. He looked up from the screen and said, is that a hyundai accent?

No, I says, I've lived in manchester all my life

As far as i know solicitors can request the info from DVLA. Not sure under which circumstances tho. Might be worth asking one if they can do the work for you, ie, not giving YOU the info, but contacting the owner themselves?

'Hello: I want to mither someone to sell me their cherished number' is not good reason, is it?

Yes, you'll have to be cleverer - if you think that remotely possible. Many cons do...

I know someone who went into a motor factors and asked:

'Do you have a wing mirror for a Seat'

To which they replied, 'that sounds like a fair swap'

Don't help with the numberplate though!
