well, after alot of deliberating and thinking and worrying about it i got one

got to say, they are rather good.

i had been reading all sorts of stuff on av forums about them, and it was just messing with my head.

my virgin media picture is superb, i didnt think there was much difference at first, but when you see the usual adverts, and the channel 4 logos etc, wow they are so much clearer, ive got it on quite lower settings as well as to run it in (as advised on av forums)

on a strange note though i was refused credit. which i was amazed and ashamed by, i dont have any loans, and owe 209 quid on a credit card.

does anybody have any ideas why this may have happened?

ive never paid anything late in my life and dont have any card balences or loans whatsoever.

i could feel myself ringing "picture the loan" ha ha not!

no credit history ?

*i think* sometimes they prefer people with lots of history over people who have next to nothing

Get and check your credit files from Experian etc.

Something may have got onto one of them by mistake. There could be many reasons why you were turned down, e.g. several address changes in the last five years, no history of borrowing (ridiculous as it may seem they seem to rate people who have had credit in the past as a better risk), etc.

See Money Saving Expert: Consumer Revenge - Credit Cards, Shopping, Bank Charges, Cheap Flights and more for details.

YUp, this could be why you will have been refused. No credit history=No history of paying ff credit on time.

Best thing to do is get yourself a credit card, use it for petrol or whatever, and pay off the balance in full every month for a while, to bump up that credit rating.

Other reasons can be, not on the voters register at your current address - You being associated with someone with bad credit history etc etc. Like suggested, check your record with experion.

I have a 42PX70. Got a great deal with 5 year warranty. Very pleased with it. Also got a panny DVD recorder which is very good although the manual is a tomb.

Coupled that to Tannoy EFX5.1 surround at the weekend and its been movie time ever since. Just need to upgrade Sky+ to HD and get a newer receiver and I'm done

Edd I have the same model. 1080p would have looked better, but 3x the price. I bought my own SkyHD box on ebay for £180 and phoned Sky myself to upgrade. Dead easy

This is what I intend to do re: SkyHD. I understand Sky don't even question why your ringing to pair the card to a new box. Already got the quad LNB from Sky+.

Wasn't too bunched with 1080p. I'm a touch short sighted so from 4 metres away I doubt I'll see the difference I bought a DVD with a HDD so I could record and edit my old VHS tapes to DVD.

Bought cheap cables and it still came to £90 - 2M HDMI, 1M Optical, 10M Sub, 2M Component (using component DVD to TV apparently its better than SCART)
First place I went to cheapest HDMI was £60 alone!

You get refused for credit, I have the cash sat in the bank but get refused by the missus, the harshest and most invasive credit check known to man.

Edd: I actually told them I was doing a self install of a new Sky HD box. They had no problem at all with it. SkyHD box comes with its own HDMI cable!

jm: I'm not bothering. I think it's just cleverly milking a mature market (dvd players).

This is a good place for quality cables at reasonable prices - HDMI TV Cables, USB / Firewire / Networking Cables / Computer Accessories and More - Cable Universe

Anyone got an opinion on SCART Vs Component. Haven't changed it yet but read a thread on AV Forums suggesting component was better.

Yes, component is superior to SCART.

You cannot put a HD or Prog Scan signal down a SCART lead

HDMI>Component and/or VGA>RGB SCART>SVideo>Composite SCART>RF
