CURRENCY IN MEXICO?
Going to South Coast of Mexico on Sunday and need some help on currency..
Initially thought I needed Mexican Peso's so bought a small amount of them, then I was told I can use US Dolars. So with the exchange rate being so good at the minute on the dolar I got dolars.
Is US dolar the best thing to have for my holiday in Mexico??
Cheers

Not sure if you have been advised, but everyone I know thats been to Mexico has to pay to leave! So make sure you have some cash in reserve
Cant remember how much, others can confirm.

I used to live in sunny Mexico (Playa del Carmen)
The Mexican peso is pretty poor... so as everyone states, get dollars... you cant change the peso back to pounds in the UK.
Chichen Itza is fantastic as is Xel-ha and Tulum.......

So it is Playa Carr you are in
You will have a good time...... go down 5th Avenue stop in bars like Capt Tutix and Blue Parrot...... if you are feeling daring go to a place called Billy the Kid for some amazing Taco's but dont use the toilet there.... it makes the bog in Trainspotting look clean.
If you want some more tips.... drop me a pm

If you are tempted to do the "swimming with dolphins" - please think carefully about it. They are held in captivity and IMHO were not kept well.
You also get the feeling it's a production run (which it is).
Please do:
Scuba diving - some great sights there.
Inca trail (wear good foot ware)

I disagree with the dolphin bit, if you choose carefully. I recently came back from porto adventuras, which is just past playa del carmen and the dolphins there were treated very well, there were about 5 big areas of water where they were kept and the public had access to walk around them 24/7 (you just paid to enter the water with them) got some cracking shots of them.
Think it was $48 to leave the country, if you use dollars over there expect the change in peso's though, to work out the cost of things over there if the price is in pesos then just divide by 10 to get you dollar equivalent.
wish i was still there in the 30+ degrees heat!

A must is Chichen Itza followed by a swim in Cenote .......
If you do go to CI and have very short hair... take a hat as you can seriously roast there!!! One down side is that they have stopped people climbing the pyramid now.....
