My best holidays have been the least "flashy" ones.

Shell out many thousands for a fortnight and you're setting yourself up for disappointment!

Harrods?!

Just had a fantastic week in Italy.

Accommodation - 4 bedroom newly converted farmhouse halfway up a mountain. Gob smacking views. FREE (a friends parents)

Flights - Easyjet. Usually awful but this route is a good one. £40 each.

Car hire - £177 for an Alfa 147 for a week. Shared between four.

Food - About £100 max. Stunning food, some out and about, some cooked by the girls in our group (7 of us).

Swimming - Mountain river.

Parking - £45 for the week.

Best holiday in years for about £250 a head!

put a bit of thought into it, do the hols yourself and its MUCH cheaper and your not relying on a travel agent to get it right. You know it will all be fine cause you sorted it yourself

Couldn't agree more.
My folks usually did the package holiday thing when I was young and as many holidays were a disaster as they were good.

Wife and I have always done our own planning and had some great trips and cheaply too.

well we / i have allways done the cheap package holiday to the med / canaries and they have allways been good. were looking to move house come the new year and would like to go on a nice holiday before getting bogged down in a bigger morgage. budget would be something like 2-3k max for the both of us. id quite hapily sit on a beach for 2 weeks but the other half would rather do something, hence ive run out of ideas....
