Sweating at night.

Sweating at night.
Recently I've had trouble getting to sleep because I've been too hot. Now you may say this is because of the time of year, but wait a mo.
I often go up to bed and lie in bed reading for half an hour. No problem, even with the duvet pulled up to my chest.
BUT: the minute I lie down, I'm over hot and can't bear the duvet on me. Any part of me that touches another part is running with sweat. I even have a fan on me, but to no avail. But the minute I sit up again, all is well
Last night I awoke to find my pillow wet through.
What the hell is causing this, and what can be done about it?

It HAS to be me, Sarah, as the Mrs is quite happy, and often burrowed under the duvet when I have the window open wide and a fan on.
Last winter, not the coldest, I know, I only slept with the window shut about three times, and that was only because the wind was coming strongly from the SW and the curtains kept moving, keeping me awake.
I regularly awake with the duvet completely chucked off me, but I'm STILL not cold
Could it be alcohol related? And if so, why doesn't it affect the Mrs when she has a few?

I sweat a lot at night if I've had alcohol. But iI don't end up being hot with it. As for the sitting up/lying down differences - you haven't got two hearts like Doc. Who have you? Could explain it ....
But rather than depending on the SN collective medical wisdom (doh ....) or Google (guaranteed to get you into a sweat!) get to the docs and ask him/her.

I sometimes get same thing. Don't use the duvet. make sure you don't eat chocolate or rich foods after lunch. cut down on beer, drink spirits with diet mixers. I am not sure why it happens but I think irregualr diet and energy intake is something to do with it.

Was you dreaming about eating a giant marshmallow?
On a more serious note, what type of duvet have you got. Personally I have always found synthetic types to be too heavy, hot, and sweaty. We have a 6 tog goose down duvet and find it fine for year round use. Much more breathable than synthetics. Same goes for mattresses, foam is hot and sweaty, pocket sprung stuffed with natural fillings nice and cool.

Alcazar :
a) You're seating cos you've just had some rumpy pumpy with the missus
b) You need to buy a lightweight duvet
c) If neither of the above, get ye off to Quack !

I had some dodgy virus which caused something similar.
Dr's said couldn't do anything about it. Keep hydrated, no booze & come back in a couple of weeks if it's a problem still.

just a quick thought i had but try having a cold shower before bed changing to a throw over for a few nights see if that makes any difference because in summer i cant have a duvet, also cut down on your drinking and salt intake because we sweat when we have too much salt in our bodies i hope this helps

I had a phase like that, didnt really notice it but it left the duvet a bit whiffy !
I feel better in always when I eat well, dont drink and get some exercise, most maladies just dissapear.
Cracking one off always causes sweaty patches and sees the sheet looking like the Turin Shroud, or shoud that be the Tugin Shroud ?
