Angry Buckingham Palace Repairs

BBC NEWS | UK | Appeal to save Buckingham Palace

This really boiled my blood on the news last night. Apparantly the government has turned down the request for the £3M needed to repair the palace.

And so it bloody well should. Why should we have to pay to repair the queen's home?

Taken from the Times Rich List:

229. The Queen £320m Head of state.

So thats 0.009% of her fortune to repair her own home!!

Do we ask the goverment to pay for repairs to our homes?

I guess the other way to look at it is that if we didnt have the Royal family and their delightful London base, how many billions would we lose a year in tourism? How many charities would suffer without their publicity and efforts etc.

I dont know what the rules are around repairs to Bucks Palace; whether it's a sub clause in a consitution that government maintains the building or what, but as a hardened royalist I am in favour of whatever support they need.

Also, most of that royal wealth in the rich list is tied up in property not cash.

God save the queen.

Buck House doesn't actually belong to Queenie - it's ours

But she does get £15m pa anyway for general property repairs which should sort out a few washing machines and leaking roofs.

I'd get a few Poles around there sharpish........

You may have to get your facts straight. AFAIK< The Queen does NOT own Buckingham Palace. The govt. do.

If you lived in a council house, would you get the council to pay for repairs or pay them yourself?

No its not.

And yet again the value of the Royal Family is underestimated. Its value to UK plc is way above £3m £30m or even £300m. As Leslie said, the Royal Palaces are owned by the Crown (The government effectively), they are not private possesions.

Yeah, yeah, the usual Royalist claptrap.

We'd lose about as much as the French lose yearly from people who no longer visit Versailles, or the Louvre, because there is no Royal family there.

And guess what? It costs the French NOWT to upkeep THEIR Royals

I'm dead against the funding of the royals. What do they acually spend their money on? I bet she wouldn't get charged for a Maccy D's!

I'd imagine tourism alone more than accounts for the cost of having a Monarchy. I doubt the French make much money from tourism by people wishing to visit the country to take pictures of the Presidents dwelling.

Nah, they make their money from people visiting EuroDisney and taking pictures of the French p*ssing up the side of Space Mountain!

But they DO make LOTS of money from letting people look round the dwellings of deposed and guillotined Royals.
