Hi everyone, hope you all had a great Christmas and are looking forward to the New Year.
Well, here we go again, Peter has ordered me a brochure from Peugeot and guess what? It features the 206.
The thing is, I reckon this is a wind-up cos he has had me nagging at him not stop, and this is his way of shutting me up. I think he thinks I`m going to be satisfied LOOKING at the 206, not driving it.
Had to get this off my chest, as you were all so supportive in our last disagreement.
Joan.

I'm not taking sides honest, but.....
Mrs NBW has a rather nice 206GLX, with aircon, leather, ABS and alloys AND she's insured on my Scooby.
We got some quotes on the Net (UK cars, not imports), printed them off, took them down to our local Pug dealer, and he matched the lowest. 10 minutes on the Net = £1000 off. Result. Except she then spent the £1000 on leather, alloys, ABS, etc....
Best of luck (sorry Pete)
Tim

Just be careful you try before you buy......we owned two 206 GTI's and they were absolute dogs to drive - offset pedals that are too cramped, too high driving position, seats with no lateral support, too tall and narrow tracked (like a mini MPV) so it didn't handle, REALLY annoying wipers set up for LHD that leave a blind spot at the top of the drivers side windscreen, lifeless steering, no low down torque, REALLY annoying curved rear window that was not optically correct so images were distorted in the rear view mirror, cheap looking leather that looks more like cardboard....I could go on with a much longer list!
Having had a 1.6 205 GTI, currently have a 1.9 205 GTI, and also owned a 306 S16 and 306 GTI-6, I do have some experience of performance pugs.
The other versions of the 206 aren't so clever either - drove a diesel and that was grotty too....
And as for the 206CC - well, apologies to any owners, but who wants to own a vehicle that looks like a Samsonite suitcase on four wheels

dave to your own opinion myself and my girlfriend like the 206cc (she loves it!) - but on about the foot pedals, that is why I said it is more of a womens car than man's they are very close together - the power curve on the pug206cc (2.0litre gti) is good, only thing i find is the gearstick is to long to change gears, as i am used to my very short gear stick on my impreza.

Dave,
You must drive like a monkey I did 12000 miles in my 206 GTI and I never had any problems with the pedal spacing. I'm no ballet dancer either. Can't say I noticed the wiper spots.
Have to agree on the distortion on the rear view mirror but I got used to it.
I'd have one again.

After having a good look at the cabriolet, I must admit it looks like a shopping trolley. What ARE those handles for?
So, I`ve now opted for a Suzuki Vitara.
Let`s see if we can get one of those!!

But I really like the Vitara, I liked it quite a while ago but we couldn`t afford two cars then. (just had Harrison, couldn`t drive anywhere, come to think of it, couldn`t sit down comfortably anywhere).
Now, I just want a flash little motor to run about it so that I haven`t got to rely on anyone else doing the running around for me. But, Peter being Peter, thinks he is the man of the house and my job should be housework. I mean all he ever does is moan about taking Harrison to parties, taking me shopping, popping up to my mums and taking me where I want to go, it would be a much easier life for him if he let me have my own car. Then, he could sit in front of the TV and play with his PC all day, and me and Harrison could go out and leave him to it.
There you go, you have some of the story now and believe me there`s more where that came from!!
Thanks for your help.
Joan.

Dave,
I agree with you 100% on all the 206 GTi points - IMHO, a load of crap!!!!!!!!!!!!
Joan, Vitara is another piece of crap, the 206 is better!! I still think Pete should snap up a new STi and give you the UK300
Matt

Whilst I don't get involved in other people's domestics, and wouldn't dream of taking sides, subconsciously I have been with you so far.....
However, first a 206, now a bloody VITARA - typical saddo London housewife take the kids to school urban off roader (i.e. the most it goes off road is up on the kerb outside Waitrose ).
Why don't you go the whole hog and go for a nice girly Clio or maybe a Corsa....
Be original - if you've got £8000 to spend go for a three year old Peugeot 306 GTI-6 or one of the type R Hondas.

Honestly you blokes If Joan wants a Vitara cos she likes them then let her be, I used to drive one (when they first came out, it had all the bits and belonged to an ex) and actually enjoyed it - ahem - my sister also had one and it was a laugh in summer with the top down cruising about with the wind in our hair
But that was back in my more youthful days and now I wouldn't be seen dead in one (gotta think of my credibility on here - soz Joan ) however it's all purely a matter of personal taste and if that's what Joan wants then good luck to her and I hope you get a good one, there is some cr@p about! Also try and get one with the pram hood, it's far, far easier to erect and put down again, the one I used to drive had big fat wheels on it too and it used to tramline like hell, my sisters' had standard wheels and tyres and it drove much better. They are slow and have a very hard ride and drink shedloads of petrol too. The boot space is ok for a stick of french bread, all your other shopping will have to sit on the back seat
The biggest plus (as far as Peter's concerned anyway ) is that they are sooooooo cheap to buy leaving loads more money to spend on mods for the scoob
Cheers
Sal (sometime Vitara expert hehehehehe)

Sorry but Vitara's are evil, they are the work of the devil, I have never driven anything that has felt quite so unattatched to it's wheels, bloody awfull Still if you like em......
What about a 206 Quicksilver, loaded up with the SP arches and bits, a lad where I used to work has one in silver, quite nice
Fiesta Zetec S? Stylish, reasonable performance but with great handling
Bob

back to the pedal thing... they are really close together in all pugs.. my old 106's pedals were so close together I crashed the thing by getting my size 11 stuck... didnt help in court though!
Got to love the lifeless gearboxes (incidently went through 4 pug gearboxes and a saxo vtr box...)
Other than that nice car... why not get a forrester turbo??
David

David,
Agreed that the Forester Turbo S is a fantastic bit of kit (possibly gonna buy one for my wife next year) .....but.....it costs basically the same as an Impreza so they might as well do what I said before Pete give the UK300 to Joan and Pete get an STi Type UK
Matt
Come on Pete, you know you want to......
