Question Anyone emigrated to Australia

As the title.

I have a job offer in Brisbane and seriously thinking about taking over the family for a few years [3-4 years].

The thing is I have no real ideas about what's involved. We're seing a financial advisor soon but there are so many things to think about.

The company will pay for basic relocation costs- air fairs, shipping house contents etc. I have no idea what the cost of shipping would be.

Has anyone gone through the experience and can give some handy tips.

Cheers

Roo

It cost us 3500 for a 20 foot container. We are currently in Sydney and are moving to Brisbane soon.

Did you shop around? I though it was only around 1/2 that.

Although if a company is paying it wouldn't matter.

Just been quoted £3000 for half a 20 ft container to Calgary , So that price seems good value .

From what I saw on TV a few months back I thought Australia was even worse than hear for its anti performance car policing. I heard they have changed the law so that private companies can set speed traps and catch you. They even have helicopters that do you from the air...

Is that through a consolidator though? You can get 1/2 containers to SE Asia for £700.

Even this place quotes £2300 for a container to Sydney.

If true, hardly something to put you off emmigrating. Besides, Aus is a vast country, no way they could put cameras everywhere, an many areas are so remote the cameras would stand no chance - they'd be destroyed.

I haven't heard of private companies setting speed traps. And checking speeding from the air has been done for ages but is very very rare, if done at all.

They used to do it in NZ on the motorways - big white marks across the lanes and then they'd get an average speed reading.

Excess Baggage quoted me £2800 and Davies Turner don't do consolidated loads

Excess Baggage are still the cheapest though

We did. We went with John Mason. They were brilliant and wrapped and organised everything really well. The amount paid included insurance which was circa 350 quid.

Other company I recommend is Anglo Pacific. Let me know if you need anymore info.

Jay

p.s. we also had my wife's company pay for it

Sounds fantastic!

I'd miss family too much but other than that, it would be great.

Don't forget to visit NZ too - one of my favourite places on Earth.

Cheers fantastic feedback.

Gonna do it regardless.

Already tried to get me feelers into the scooby crowd in Brisbane but Rexnet don't allow hotmail addresses :susp:

Jay, when you moving to Brisbane.

So much to think about though, even childtrust funds etc.

Probably in a year or so. Sydney hasn't been for us. Queensland is stunning.

Got family over there as well as in Aus....like a global bomb burst of Roos really.

That will be on my list of places to go. Still quite a distance from Aus.

My sister lives in Melbourne. Loves it

Worked there while backpacking in 92 for 6 months. Went back 5 years later and settled.

Happy days
