Default Speed cameras

If you get flashed by a speed scamra, do they only have 14 days in which to inform you? I know they have only that time for the mobile van cameras but is it the same law for the static ones? Thanks.

If you are "caught" by any camera device relating to speed enforcement, then a NIP (notice of intended prosecution) must be served on the registered keeper within 14 days of the alleged offence.

Many forces still send them out way after the 14 day period.

I got one from South Yorks Police 4 months after the offence that been carried out by the car's previous owner.

This is what police like you to think, but the RTOA 1988 (Road traffic Offenders Act) stipulate 14 days, not 15 or 16. Quite an easy one to defend once you quote the relevant Act

Requirement of warning etc. of prosecutions for certain offences.

1.—(1) Subject to section 2 of this Act, where a person is prosecuted for an offence to which this section applies, he is not to be convicted unless—

All that's been posted above does also depend on whether or not you are the registered keeper, on whether or not your details are with the DVLA, on whether or not you have changed your car recently.

All the above can, in a court of law, provide mitigating circumstances so that the "14 day" rule is waived. THEN, the scamera people have as long as it takes

Let's face it guys, thse people are DESPERATE for your money.........
