New company car - help me decide
Looks like I'll be changing jobs in the near future and I'll need to decide upon a new company car. Decissions, decissions
I'm looking for a turbo diesel, 4 or 5 door, handles/drives well, fairly quick and arround £18k. And no Vauxhall rubbish
So far:
Civic 2.2TDi Sport (it's over 2000cc so I'll get 13pence per mile rather than 9ppm for less than 2000cc)
Seat Leon FR 2.0 TDI
Maybe..........
Focus 2.0 TDCi
Mazda 3 2.0 Sport TDi
Help, and good or bad points?

I got the TDI Sport when released last year. Not a bad car by any means and despite a recurring issue with the passenger seat belt chime when empty its had no problems in over a years ownership. They even look quite good too. Front and rear room is very good and load space in the boot is good. You'll have 170 as opposed to my 150.
I like the interior feels nice and sporty not as much as my Subaru. It has softer suspension too unlike my Subaru.
Are you buying or leasing?
Regards

Now I'd normally be in agreement with DCI on this, but even I have to concede that some of the modern diesel are very good (admittedly, I have been driving around in the V10 TDI Touareg for the last few days - which could embarrass an off guard 911 with its pick up, but that's beside the point!).
If you can push your budget a bit (and with some haggling) an Alfa 159 would be in reach and that is by far and away the most stylish saloon on the market at the moment.

I am in a simlar position, contracting at the moment and they have asked me to go perm, tempted as its close to home and they are saying there will be a car involved, the choice is Astra, Focus or similar diesel, alternatively as its only seven miles from home, **** it and take the car allowance and get something with a honking v8 in it, 14 miles a day, even in a Range Rover is still not very expensive !

Similar boat to you. I chose a Skoda Octavia vRS TDi. It's massive inside for the growing family, looks good, has plenty of toys and about 265 lb/ft of torque....which is nice and will do 50mpg on a 75mph run.

Thanks so far for the feedback.
True - I've a Scooby for the weekend Sir that's why I can go for a diesel as a company car - unknown amount of travelling to do 20k-30k a year business miles
It's a leased company car, the other option is to take an allowance of £3200 a year which is not enough!
Yeah, the Civic or the Leon at the moment. The Civic looks good on paper as I get an extra 4p per mile
I'm still working on this, but I think that my budget has already been set. otherwise I'd be going for a 320d.
I've an Astra SRI TDI 150 at the moment and whilst it's an okay drive, it's POO! Always in the garage, my Impreza puts it to shame for reliability!
Not on the list unfortunately
So, it seems to be the Leon - good looks, handling, VW(ish) build quality and within budget. Or, maybe the Civic, as I'd get the 2.2TDI and get more money for business miles Lastly, maybe I'll look for a Golf GT TDI 140

If not the Alfa 159 - you can get the Alfa GT (2 door I know) - they are doing a special edition one at the moment (Blackline? something like that, which is basically black (funny that) with all the toys) for 18K

9p a mile?!! I know you always get a lot less than the 40ppm rate when you have a car allowance or car but that seems very tight! I thought my firm were tight gits only paying 16p for those with cars/allowance but 9p takes the pis$!

Going through the same dilema myself at the moment. I'd prefer the Leon but Seat aren't a manuafacturer on our company car list. I'm therefore looking a a 5dr Golf GT TDi (170) or a 5dr A3 Sport TDi (140) which are both around the £20K mark.
In your case, I would go for the Leon.

Leon is a nice car, but beware of the interior - not a fabulous place to be - I had a look at one and it looked decidely cheap. Bearing in mind you are likely to be spending a fair amount of time in there, this is important.
