I am stuck on the 1st level of devil may cry! How do I get the 17 marrionettes to fight me so i can get through the door? Have done everything else on the level, and looked around the bi-plane but can't get any further. Help!

 

In the room with the plane, look at the back of the room.

There is a little alcove with a glowing thing on the wall.

Step into the alcove and attack the thing on the wall with your sword.

You should be lowered down into a room to fight some baddies and then when you go back up on the elevator the baddies around the plane are active.

Kill em off and mission accomplished

Notice I substituted baddies cause I can't spell marionettes

cheers mate have tried to chop at that glowing thing but nothing happened- maybe i didn't do it enough! Will give it another go. (ps I can't spell it either. )

Just keep hitting.

IIRC there is a ring of lights around the plaque, that light up as you hit it. You need to have all the lights lit up for the elevator to activate.
