Shares and Loan Notes Any experts?
I've got a large number of shares in a company that is about to be taken back into private ownership. As a result of this, the shares I own are being automatically sold, and the money returned to me. Not too much of a problem, except that the value is now high enough that a sizable chunk of it would have to go to Stalin Brown as part of Capital Gains Tax.
There's an option of Loan Notes, where (I'm told) I can leave some of the shares 'in trust' as it were, and then take the money owed me in the next tax year, thus making sure that the profit I receive is below the CGT threshold in any one tax year. Anyone had any experience of this? Is claiming the money next year a simple process as all the information in the documents I've got relates to deciding to take up the option.
