Default To take baby car seat on holiday??

I'm off on hols to Turkey with the missus and eight month old on Monday.

Its our first time abroad with the littlun. I'm trying to figure out whether I should take the car seat.
There is a one hour taxi journey from the airport to hotel. Once there we will only be taking taxis for short journies to local beaches and towns.

Do you guys take the baby seat with you on holidays?

Thanks

Never, it's just not practical and you will end up leaving it at the hotel.

Think about it, you'll end up trying to fit it in taxis in horrendous traffic, most of which may not have sealtbelts, or have airbags in the front and you'll have to carry it about wherever you go.

Just leave the baby unattended in your hotel room / villa while you go out, after all thousands do it so it must be ok...

Perhaps not.

Really, having travelled a lot i have not found this the case unless third world countires. Turkey is pretty civilised (well Instanbul and Anarah from experience) as long as you stick to touristy bits and most cabs have seatbelts. Standard of driving is another rmatter which is WHY i wouls take the seat. Most seats fit in a matter of seconds (with experience) to not exactly a chore.

as for leaving it in the hotel if you take it you have the opportunity to do that is for feel the need, do not take it and you do not have a choice.

Mate traveled to Bangalore with my kiddo who was 2. We didn't have a car seat with us because we knew it wouldn't work strapped into a Auto rickshaw!

She sat on me or the missus' lap. No probs. In fact she loved it. You should be a little safer in Turkey just have a word with the driver (in your best Turkish) to slow down if he starts driving like a loon.

Was a mission taking our 8 month old to Wales in a static caravan, never mind Turkey. You must be brave! Good luck!

Some airlines provide little 'hammocks' for really young babies, but mostly they sit on your knee with a little seat belt around them.
Took my daughter to USA when she was 18 months and not crawling....she fell asleep on my knee just after take off and didn't wake up untill 30 mins before landing
8 hours sitting in a seat that's too small ( I'm 6' 4"), and not being able to go for a **** was great fun.....
