Default sky+ problem?

Hi, does anyone have sky+ that can help? I have just noticed that in stand by the hard drive is still spinning as I can hear a whirling noise, is this normal? The TV keeps turning off on its own and wondering if it might be the sky+ box that’s somehow causing this.

Might be the cooling fan running instead of the hard drive spinning up ??

My HD box started doing this as well. Not the fan in my case because you can hear the drive 'plicking' and the noise does'nt change when the light goes from red to green.

I've found that turning it off from the mains to reboot it will sort it for a period of time (week or more) but it still does it every now and then.

Mine does the same, not sure what it is. No idea how it decides when to go to standby either - seems fairly random

Dry disabling Sky Anytime if you have it - that seems to be causing the boxes to be noisy (according to AV forums)

What does sky anytime do? I went to turn it off to see if it made any difference and it warned me that it would take up to 2 days to reactivate it.

Sky Anytime uses the half of your hard drive that your not allowed to use for recording your own stuff.

When the box is in standy it downloads programs Sky think you might be interested in but apparently it's a bit hit & miss - i've heard people saying that there is nothing interesting on it - kids programs mainly.

Eventually, apparently, you'll be able to tell it what kind of programs YOUR interested in - e.g. motoring programs, sport, documentaries etc and it'll download them by itself.

The boxes turn themselves to standby in the early hours of the morning now, as an energy saving pledge. A warning appears on screen before hand.

Yup mine spins up randomly but I have grown used to it now.

The confusing one for me is, if I leave the Sky box on, and the TV on standby, sometimes I come in and the TV has turned back on. Guessing its getting a signal from something lol
