Sorry to interrupt you love birds and get the thread back on track...
I plan to give up before the ban comes into force. I experienced smoking bans starting in London, Ontario and Toronto. Not something I want to endure again.

Hello 84ofwhatever.
So who is envisaged will enforce this so-called ban then? The smoking police?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a smoker, but I do enjoy the occasional montecristo which I intend to continue to spark up where and when I god damn feel like and woe betide the interfering gimp who tries to stop me.

Basically it'll be down to pub landlords etc to enforce in the main otherwise they get huge fines for allowing smoking. So if you continue to smoke expect to get barred.
As for smoking police.. yep this isnt far off the truth, local authorities are spending thousands employing inspectors who have the power to issue on the spot fines.
Then there is the grasss up a smoker hotline, where all the non smoking elite take great pleasure in phoing up when you spark up... either ending with a visit by the aforementioned smoking police that lands you and the landlord with a fine... or the landlord just gets a fine through the post, and you get barred.

Well, they may as well be. My other half has a Company vehicle and they even want to stop smoking in those. So, he stops for his lunch, and has a smoke after, is he going to be attacked by some jobsworth and fined
It's a personal choice, surely

After a quick google rather than 'huge' fines it seems £200 should cover it for the bar owner's fine or £50 if they fine me. I'll just shout the fine, no biggie. It's barely the cost of a box of Edmundos.
Then I can enjoy my cigar with impunity.
Sweet.

it says Landlords etc can be fined upto £2.5K whilst it is true the on-the-spot fine for the offender is merely £50, do you think landlords will risk the £2.5K and potential for losing their licence at its next renewal. That's not to mention if the *** police get upity about it and decide you need a real lesson then take you to court... where all kinds of nasty things can and usually do happen to normally law abiding citizens.

I'm really looking forward to my first 'proper' cigar smoke related public argument. I'm going to make them cry.
It will be just like my first 'woman & child' parking space polemic at the supermarket. I will fondly remember her tears always.

Ironically this is the part that I find appealing. Knowing an officious little gimp is getting offended whilst I take pleasure in a fine cigar it makes it all the sweeter somehow.

I am currently in the process of stopping (5 days now) and finding it surprisingly easy so far. I am not doing this because of the forthcoming smoking ban though.

They haven't said you have to give up-just that you are not allowed to-in many places.
I gave up because I wanted to and also I did not fancy being told by my doctor that I had lung cancer and not that long left to go!

I'm going to give it a go I think the ban is a great idea
I will miss the pub if I can't succeed though I can phone my friends and pretend I am there while smoking happily at home

The ban has virtually no impact in me smoking, the only exception is that now you will be fined 80 quid for throwing your cig butt on the floor and not in the ash trays/bins etc
That means its actually cheaper to be caught smoking in a banned area, than it is to throw your finshed cig on the floor
