Default Spring water into home

Hope someone can help.
We're looking into buying a new house and the house is fed with "spring water" not mains that we've been using.
Has anyone got any knowledge with spring water? filters if needed, water shortage, electrical pump, contamination etc........
Really interested in the house, it's the water that's putting us off a little as we can't seem to talk to anyone who knows. Only the environmental health and they didn't say it was that great with a young family.
Any help would be really good.

Thanks
Adam

Its alright-ish, but the quality can vary and be contaminated easily you also need to analyse the water quality periodically. Is it far from a mains water supply?

Sounds great to me!
Is it near Guildford (lived in West Horsley for many years and went to RGS Guildford!)?

I'd have a chat with the water company and see what they have to say. It will probably taste terrific. But you would need to get it tested every now and again. The main concern would be faecal contamination and the test would look for the presence of E-Coli.

Might be worth checking how far the mains supply is in case your supply dried up in future or was contaminated. You'll probably end up with a small borehole and submersible pump; I think you will need a licence to extract a certain volume per year.

If worried give the kids bottled water from a tap or a supemarket bottle. You can probably get stuff like a dilute chlorine solution to tip into your storage tank to kill off any bugs.

Might be best letting the kids drink bottled lager as that is now cheaper than bottled water

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I'll do some Googling as Dave said, any more info of course would still be great.

Thanks

We have been on spring water in our house for about 15 years. It is lovely to drink and makes an outstanding cup of tea-the real test

We had it analysed and it was purer than the mains water except that it has some manganese in it which is of no concern. It remains clear as gin even when boiled. We do not have filters and it never changes its quality.

Certainly get it analysed od course, but I would favour that much more than mains water which has been re-cycled many times.

Thanks Les, what area are you in?

The area in question for me is between Milford and Haslemere in Surrey (Brook).

I am in the West Country-in Devon. It is very soft water . I came originally from the Walton/Esher area.

As I am sure you appreciate the water is "soft" because it runs straight off the surface of the land, Cornish/Devon granite being impervious. Ladies love it for washing hair

In the SE it could well be water from the underlying chalk which will be "hard" because of its mineral content. Tastes better than soft because of this.

Is it not soft because of the urine content ??

Personally I'd be delighted to have spring water. No water rates, hosepipe bans etc!

However I would get the water quality checked, and then you'll know if you need to have it filtered etc.

You won;t need any bulk storage will you?
