What are all these sh1t box Po'lice cars on m-way doing lately?

What are all these **** box Po'lice cars on m-way doing lately?
In the last 2 -3 weeks I've seen dozens of average joe blow cars - oldish ones some of them, with a blue light stuck on the roof by a hand out of the window - Starsky & Hutch stylee
blazing down the m-way or hard shoulder.
Mainly on M1 going south, but also on M6 & M42 - Not just a couple but a few dozen......
Seems wierd - are they CID cars or something? Or 'anti-terrorist' units and ***** about to go down?

Most cop cars I see with flashing blue lights have 'em hidden behind the grille these days. Maybe its another form of stealth tax...?
Seriously - saw a red Audi [might even have been the new RS4 - who can tell one from a 1.9TDi
] had pulled a car over on the M4 by Cardiff Gate today. Be very wary unleashing the horses it if something is hugging your bumper!
