Do i buy the new Civic Type R ????
Think i need a second opinion on this one.
Here's the situation, looking for a new car for under 20k
I like the new Civic Type R and went to see it today, massive inside and plenty room for the little man and missus, looks the biz and got all the toys i need BUT.... I've gotta think about how it'll depreciate and what it'll be worth in 3 years time
So now thinking about a nearly new Golf Gti for about 19k, will these hold thier value more??
And then i'm thinking, what about an A4 convertible with 30k miles for about 16k
Obviously, you get the benefits of a buying a new car but also the depriciation.... How much are these Type R's gonna be second hand in a couple of years. The old model dropped about £7k on a 2 year old model.
So what do you guys think:
New Civic Type R - 200bhp
Golf Gti 2.0T - 200bhp
Audi A4 Convertible, 2003/2004 30k-ish
Any other suggestions, dont suggest a Scoob/Evo as i dont like the cheap interiors and running costs

I agree on the depreciation part. EP3 CTR's seemed to hold their value very well, although prices have dropped a little since the new model (FN2) has been released.
A mate has one, and he had an EP3 before that. He describes the FN2 as far more 'grown up' and much better on motorway cruises. Basically he thinks that is an all round more comfortable car to live with day to day.
I think the price for the JDM car (FD2) is a little excessive at £23k, especially when you look at Litcho's site and see what else you could have for that money. But, if you're looking for exclusivity then the JDM model is obviously the way to go.

I don't think the depreciation will be as bad on the new type R as the old one - you've got to remember that when the old one was released people were already talking about a new shape 'space age' civic - although IIRC nothing was official from Honda - we all know how a shape change can affect depreciation
Have you driven all 3 yet?
That would be what would sell me - 3 cars that would make it onto my list so I'd have to have a play and see what I thouhgt after that

I also had a number of MK4 GTi's - 5 to be exact and never had a sinlge warranty claim on any of them.
The MK5 was with the dealer more than me ...... terrible car and put me off VW for life.

They have better depreciation than the Golf according to the mags, approx 51% after 3 years.
We've had the 2.2 i-CTDi Civic since the start of the year and its fantastic, I'll swap it for a Type R when my lad has grown a bit more to not need 5 doors.

Tbh, from what I have seen, the Golf has on whole had better write-ups. Have u also thought about the Megane R26?
