Stephen Fretwell - Acoustic Gig Last night
What a brilliant gig last night at Henry’s Cellar Bar in Edinburgh. Tiny intimate venue sold out with only 100 people
One of the best songwriters of our time and a true genuine nice bloke…….
He said it felt like playing in his grannies living room
Stephen Fretwell - new website coming soon
Can't wait for the new album. A few of the tracks he played from it sounded spot on.

Not nearly as 'corny' as JJ. Think gritty real life UK as opposed to sun-drenched Hawaii and you're getting there but I'd still rate Magpie as one one of my top 5 favourite albums of all time.
Well worth a listen but I'd check his website out first to see if you like his voice etc...

I may well check it out though, it does sound quite good from the quick snippet I heard on his website earlier.

Please do.....Our drummer sent me a text at 3:00am one day insisting I buy Magpie immediately The way it gets under your skin is stunning

Sorry for misleading you mate....it's not angry, just 'emotional' in a songwriting but not an angry style. I'm just not very good at describing things I'm afraid......it's maybe a bit more introspectivce and raw.
It's a grower but an album that has NO FILLERS and if possible even gets stronger towards the end. A true masterpiece but you have to stick with it.
Don't get me wrong about Jack Johnson. I went all the way to Paris to see him last March and rate him and Donovan Frankenreiter, Jason Mraz, G Love, Ben Lee, Ben Taylor, John Butler Trio, Pete Murray (etc ...all that same breed) very highly. There's just more raw heartfelt emotion in Fretwell's lyrics and two of the songs from Magpie (Emily and New York) are true masterpieces IMHO.

When I listen to JJ after a stressful day it calms me down, whereas 'gritty' probably won't. Same reason I stopped listening to must rock/metal - it's too angry for me now!
