When I did ours a couple of years ago, there was very little difference betweeen the companies, to the degree that the incentive to go with a certain company is what swung it, ie £15 of Asda vouchers. AFAIK you can add to the all, that's the aim of the scheme.

No not at all, I have a regular saver accout fot the kids so I only put the govt voucher into the CTF account. When I signed up the account was set to invest in the stock market for the first 10-11 years and then with less risky investments laterly prior to it being cashed in. IIRC you can opt how the money is managed in the first period but govt regs limit it to less risky investment later on. Engage charge 1.5% as their management fee and the investment rose from £277 to £306 in the first full year. My mental maths made that £29 and there or thereabouts 11%. This year should be another good year, but if we hit a recession the growth will slow down. That is why I also invest in the Halifax regular saver which guarantees me a fixed 10% this year and last.
