The old cheque scam
A guy I sit next to at work is selling his car.
He has been sent a cheque from a guy in Ireland for 5 grand more than he is selling his car. He knows there’s something very wrong about it but for some reason his still going along with it. (He ain’t too bright, he’s also an Aussie)
He must be desperate to sell his car as he is prepared to pay £15 to have the cheque checked out by his bank.
Does anyone know what will happen when he takes it to the bank?
We are trying to wind him up by telling him he will be led into a room told to wait and then the fraud squad will come and take him away and probably deport him.

Sounds like the stolen non -UK cheque scenario, looks like it's cleared then months later it gets clawed back because it's stolen.
Open a new bank account, cash cheque, take out cash and close account.

I assume the bank would still come after you, get police involved as it's fraud. When you open a 'new' account, you have to prove who you are so they'll track you down easy enough.

He took it to the bank for a "special presention".
No surprise a women at the bank had a look at it, put in under a IR machine and said it's a fake and a bad one at that.
The paper is to thick, the ink is a little blurred, it's printed on a slant and there's no IR marks or anything.
He asked her what he should do with it and she said to take it home and frame it.

No, don't. nice thought though
I just had a lense on ebay, and got several request to post abroad (all from buyers with 0 feedback), depite it being £40+ for postage, and no insurance. One just said 'Post to Sweden'. i replied 'No', and copied to the listing. for other's amusement.
I haven't worked out how these will you post abroad scams work TBH.
At the same time, sold a £65 bike carrier for £78!
