Question customs duty tax?

Anybody know how much duty would be on

58 U S dollars.

This does not include the shipping costs. including shipping, 94 U S dollars. Do they charge duty on the total cost or just item cost

Tax & duty on shipping too. Usually 3%-5% duty + 17.5% tax
$94=£47+3%+17.5% = £56.88 so £9.88 Vat & duty.
All couriers usually charge £10 upwards for customs clearance fee too so looking at £20ish total (if you get caught).

I don't object to paying the duty/vat but since I've already paid the postage, the £13.50 'Parcelforce Clearance Fee' for sending me a fecking demand for payment winds me right up

Yup, especially when the tax/duty on comes to about a tenner. Always makes me feel very ripped off. I believe Royal Mail have started charging £8 for the same thing now too

You are paying for the submission and clearance through customs (E2), most carriers will give you a copy of the C88 (custom entry)

Autoparts are 3.5% import duty and 17.5% vat.

So here we go:
$58 = £29
Plus shipping and insurance, guesstimate of £20

= £49

As the duty is 3.5%, it works out to a £1.70 or so. As this is under £7, it should be waived according to the C&E website.

However, you will be charged 17.5% VAT on your £49.

£49 + £8.60 = £57.60

And don't forget, Parcel Farce will probably charge you £10 - £20 for their "work"..lol!!

A quick rough way is to look at what you're paying in $, change the sign to £ add a bit on and if you end up paying less than that, you're on a winner.

Nige.

Just a point. I am on contract to Parcelfarce, and I always tell my customers on the door to appeal against the Clearing fees, if they are not a company. Apply to C+E as well they may refund. I would say that there is a 50% sucess rate on the refunds.
