I have looked into this as well, srtill a toss up between one and a enduro bike.
Lot of cheap chinese impoorts about, check for spares avaliability and back up prior to buying, you may find a lot of peole will import a container of these from China, seel them off and make thier money and ,move on with littl or no chance of spares or back up.
I was looking at 350cc minimum, this will give a cruise speed of around 55-60mph flat out at 70mph, which will feel faster!
Plenty on Ebay!
Buying a wel konw make will ensure resaleability and ease of spares + good build quality - at a price. Depends what you want, a bit of summer fun, soft roading and going to the shops and work then a cheaper model will do, otherwise if serious then go for a top brand - or if more money then sense and want a pose then top brand
Not too sure if i would buy new, would rather have a decent second hand one.

Yeah I had a good look at buying one a couple of weeks ago. Not going to get one now as it wont fit through the side gates. Go with the Yamaha, that was my choice.

Can the Yamahas be registered legally (not a dodgy 'agg' registration)? The reason that I ask is that all of the quads that are eligbale for registration have restricted power as a condition of their MCC.
