Unhappy

OK....HELP.

I'm no I.T. Bod so pardon if this seems a daft question...

Just checked my mail and found 21 messages telling me that a delivery had failed. All of these were to Simon at the webmaster address. Apparently, Simon's mail delivery software has rejected it because it contains a virus...

Now the thing is, I've not mailed Simon for ages, and all of a sudden this happens....what the f.... is going on. Is this mail going to ALL the people on my address book???

It appears the message says something like...I send you this for your advice.....eh?

My virus scan is like 6 years old so thats buggered that I guess.....someone please gimme some advice.....other than destroying the computer

i does sound like a virus of sorts.

you should be able to download a trial version of the latest McAfee anti virus... that should shed some light on the situation.

I would recommend McAfee to be one of the best if not the best for catching web transmitted viruses.

Yes - its a WORM virus that sorts through you outlook express addressbook and randomly e-mails people to self-propogate...
I had one recently - its easy to get rid of (the mail delivery system sometimes tells you what the virus is called!)....
I used AVG anti-virus software (free 30 day download) - and it disinfected my computer easily..

Hope that helps,

Gastro

Make sure you install and keep your antivirus upto date - otherwise you're just part of the problem.

Manageable Antivirus software can be purchaced for less than... well, something cheap! If you catch me in a good mood I'd even give you a copy for nothing.

Had similar message from news@ginger.com I think I e-mailed them once but they are not in my address book. Anyway they said that the message I sent had a virus and had not been opened.

I have Norton Anti Virus software and update it every week. Either I have got some virus or Ginger.com don't check their mail until 6 months after it has been sent.

Thanx for your replies chaps.

It is definately SirCam, that much I know , and I am currently in the process of downloading some Sophos anti virus stuff (like i said, I'm not an IT bod so it's just STUFF ) LOL

I'll let you know how I get on with it.

<mental note.....ensure anti-virus software is up to date>
