Default Changing a conservatory roof?

What is the easiest way to get rid of the clear plastic roof on a conservatory to beef it up with something that will retain the heat better.
A local PVC co informed me that all the glass needed replacing in order that a traditional roof could be fitted for 11k...................no thanks.

There must be an easier/cheaper way.

Depends what the cons is made of, surely? Mine is uPVC and Ally, and pre-cut pieces of polycarbonate sheeting with 5 hollow channels inside, fit into the roof ribs, being retained by flexible neoprene seals.
