**** I just gave away 2 128Mb DIMMS. I'd personally only use Buffalo or Kingston in Macs.

What speed iMac is it and is it tray or slot loading and I can sort you out.

fitting is a doddle. turn of the imac, look at the back of it and you'll see a panel you can open, open it up and you'll see the RAM slot, simply pop in a new chip (might have to take old one out first) boot up, volia!

I actually used 256mb chips we got for our PC's, worked a dream, dirt cheap too, that's why I've got 640mb in my G4 and 256 in my iMac.

Cheers so far lads. Will explore for answers to your questions on spec etc. is it different to normal pc type stuff???

Ok. Its a G3 -400,with DVD(That has never worked?? Something to do with "Turning it on "in the software??).
Have looked at "Crucial" ,very cheap.

Luke,
depends on the Mac involved, It may need special timings on the ram, best to ask a ram maker. The link I gave earlier will ask you which model you have and present the options that will work with that model.

Luke, having not upgraded my Mac for a couple of years now and have to say I am unsure. The numbers represent the speed in Mhz that the dimm can run at max. If you know the bus speed of your iMac then just make sure the dimm can cope. If the price difference is tiny between the 2 sorts then just buy the faster one.

Anybody else got any suggestion??

Luke,
the 100 should be fine. I can't remember the returns policy with Crucial as I have never returned any ram to them. Every single simm, dimm, so-dimm etc.. worked first time.

PC100 on an iMac 400 DV. Be wary that much third party RAM doesn't work. Buffalo or Kingston stuff does and costs virtually ther same.

I have bought RAM from Crucial for my daughter's I-Mac and for my G4. In both cases there have been no problem. As they say it 100% compatible provided you follow their prompts to the page for your particular machine.

They claim it is 100% compatible - if not return it for full refund as far as I can remember.
