Depends which way the rear of the vehicle is facing, in my experience.
As the back has a window where the camera is pointing from.
It's been both though, approaching and passing.

I was 'scammed' on Saturday while travelling down the A14.... corner, 85 - 90 mph and thought "what's that parked on the bridge?"...(two nano seconds later) "****!".... slowed it down to 78 - 80 mph, but TBH probably nabbed me and for what its worth I WAS speeding along
Strange thing was that the van had its drivers side sliding door open and the van was marked in very dark colours, yet when I passed it and looked back it was marked (on the other side) in the usual high viz colour scheme??? Whats the feckin point in that
Hey ho.... I've started the two week NIP countdown

The back of the van and hence the camera was pointing towards me, but the van was parked on the otherside of the road. All because I overtook an stupid lawnmowing thing doing 15mph and put my foot down to get round it. Ho-hum!

I did something similar... overtook a garbage disposal truck - which was going just under the 60 limit. However it was a hot day and the smell it gave off ... was not pleasant. I gave it some juice and overtook.
Just as I cleared it... there was a van there which had been partially hidden.
Turns out it was checking for tax dodgers etc... but I was worried to say the least ...

My GPS tells me that when the speedo shows 80, you are doing 74ish actual mph.
So if you were clocked doing 85 say, you may well have only been doing about 78-79, in which case they are unlikely to prosecute - 10% plus 2 mph leeway.
90, is probably actually 83ish - could well be done for that?

If they can point the ATM towards you it doesnt matter if you are coming or going - you can be zapped.
So, make progress on corners and by schools/shopping centres and slow down for nice long straights; this is how their accountants want it

Yes I can manually plug the location in to the RA as "Mobile" but then it'll go off every time I go past that location, may be usefull but if I'm not carefull the damn thing will be going off all the time and I'll start ignoring it

Ive seen bikes used recently. Marked like a traffic Police bike but the panniers contain a hand held scamera and the operators high-vis said 'POLICE staff'..... The advantage from their point of view, will be that they can be used (and easily concealed) in a variety of new locations, making GPS evasion far harder.
Its a new world order!

The problem with Nottingham is that if you set up all the places where I have seen mobiles, then combined with all the sodding SPECS etc the unit would never stop beeping.

I see your point. Its the same with the M4 in sunny South Wales, goes off approaching every bridge - of which there are many between Swansea and Cardiff, but I don't mind as my stereo is normally so loud I can't hear the beep just occasionally notice the flashing display. I look out for anything on every bridge anyway - especially by St Marys Golf Club (nr Jnctn 35), locals will know exactly what I mean

Not really, people are usually too busy looking up at bridges, down at their speedo or trying to figure out if that badly parked white van is a Talivan or just a builder's van to actually look at the road.

And aint that the truth - the M4 issue here in S Wales as mentioned above is so distracting. Any +/- 5 mph isnt an issue in reality but it is if they zap you and invoice you for 79mph Could tell you a lot about concrete and bridge construction methods now
