JAPANESE KNOTWEED
Hi all
Dose any one know if you have to inform the local council in you suspect Japanese knotweed? I think I have some growing behind where I work along the fire escape rout and its growing really quick I would say about half an inch a day

Might be best to inform them. Also bear in mind that you have to excavate 2 meters below and to the side of the area to eliminate the spread of it once excavated and obviosly not use that soil again.
We had it once on a job in Swindon and it is a biatch to get rid of permanently. It actually goes through concrete too.

Are you actually building something? If so you will have to employ a proper waste disposal company. If not, then I doubt the council will be interested as they would have to pay for any work.
If the plant is approaching your building then it may pay to have it destroyed as it can be very destructive, lifting and breaking concrete slabs.
