Any Jewellers/antique metal experts here? Cleaning plated metal
Bit of a long shot..
Finally been issued my Iraq medal after a two and a bit year wait, and there are some fairly stubbon blemishes on it (). Due to the plating technique they use, something such as Brasso is out of the question as its too harsh. I usually use a Connoisseurs Ultrasoft Silver Jewellery two part Polishing cloth, but it doesn't seem to be harsh enough to remove the blemishes
Any (sensible!) suggestions gratefully received.

Tomato ketchup works well on brass. It's the acid that does the trick, the tomato paste just makes it stay where you put it. If you try this just dap it on one of the less obvious blemishes and leave for a minute or two to see what happens. May take a couple of goes to shift it completely but you will see straight away if it's going to work. Never tried it on silver though.

Cheers - I might give that a go. The 'bad' blemishes are on the rear of the medal so won't really be seen once its court mounted; but I'll know they are there
The medal is made of Cupro-Nickel if that means anything to anyone.
