Isn't the idea of Economy 7 that the electricity is generated anyway regardless of actual demand, and they would rather people use it than it just be wasted through loss from transmission cables?
In which case, surely leaving your TV on standby overnight isn't really that big an issue - in fact it makes a bit more cash for the electricity companies because it's electricity being used that they can charge for.

LOL, if legislation comes out to prevent me from legally owning or leaving my electronic equipment on standby then I'll leave it on 24/7. I will never surrender such a basic right of consumer choice. I pay for the fvcking electricity afterall
It really won't be long before there is an entire black market economy in switches, lightbulbs and eventually combustion engines!

I picked up one of those Power Meter things from Maplin's and went round measuring the the power consumption of everything.
Plug-In Mains Power & Energy Monitor
Obviously the Kettles (2.8kW), Toasters (1.6kW) and Microwave (1.3kW) were the big stuff, but they are only used infrequently.
I then tried items that had Standby.
My 28" CRT draws 133w when switched on, but only 2w when on standby. My 42" Plasma (which doesn't even have an off switch) uses 250w on / 3w standby. DVD Player, 10w on / 0.1w standby.
Why are we being led to believe that things left on Standby use almost as much power as when they are switched on?
Steve.
