Default Home phone problem

Anyone had this prob???

Bt line but now on sky package which includes phone for £26.

Anyway, phone has gone off.No dial tone, but if you ring in,it seems normal at the caller end,but rings out.At our end it rings once, but the line is dead when picked up.
Obviously the Sky wireless broadband is still workin 100%.
Been onto BT and Sky..both just say we will try and get it sorted in 48hrs or so..Great..!!!
Oh..BTW..have tried a different phone just in case!!

Any idea's or do i just have to wait till SKY/BT sort it out??

Any suggestions that i can try??

TIA

I'm on Sky phone and b/band with no issues. Sure the problem isn't your phone/handset?

bob.. he says he's tried a different phone,...
It seems likely to be a problem more with BT line than anything to do with sky.. the BB signal and the 'normal' phone signal are *sent* seperately.

I'm a BT openreach engineer so i can help you here matey....

The reason your broadband works is due to the way in which it has been developed. Broadband only requires a single wire connection from the exchange to your termination point. Telephone service requires 2 wires which are refered to as "legs".

One of your "legs" is "Dis" this means its broken somewhere between the exchange and your home.

If someone calls you it will ring and ring and ring until they get NR tone, why???..... simple answer... its just a noise mate... its a noise so that you know that when you call someone your phone is doing something and that your call is actually going somewhere... that is it, there is nothing more to it than that.

Thanks for the reply's guys, especially Rob..

So it sounds like its a prob between the exchange and my house??

So,in your opinion, what is the tme frame involved in getting it fixed?I have only contacted BT through the net, whereas i called sky and filled in the faults form on there web page.

Didnt know how much i would miss the phone till it didnt work!! ha ha.Sounds a bit pathetic that!!

Do you have any telephone extension sockets in your house and is your telephone/sky connected to any?

Are you still a "BT retail" customer but just for the line rental? or do you pay everything to sky and have nothing to do with BT at all.

if you pay still pay BT Retail somthing then you will be best to call 0800 800 151 (from a mobile seeing as your landline is out of service)

If you pay sky and sky only then it is their responsability to get you back up and running by arranging for us to deal with your fault.

Appointments are made on a first come first serve basis and this could mean you are without your phone for anything up to a week depending on the amount of work engineers have in the area.

Since you have reported the fault have you not been given any idea when it will be dealt with. There is usually a commitment date?

Well sky called me at 5.35pm and said its BT problem,as i pay the line rental too them.
Called BT and went through all the various button pressing and such.Anyway an automated voice told me an engineer is sorting out the problem tommorrow,as the fault is between or house and the exchange.i dare say i will be calling them again tommorrow night..!!
Not sure why but i seem to have lost all confidence in all sectors of the service industry lately..
