Default Freelander Aux powerout not working, Why??

Hi Guys,

I've got a TD4 03reg Landrover Freelander 2.0l diesel.

I noticed the other day that the rear cigarette light/ aux power out wasn't working. I tried plugging in a portable DVD player and it would work. My front one works fine.

I've check the socket and it's not getting any power at all. I've checked the fuse and thats fine, and power is arriving and leaving the fuse box.

I can't figure out why it's not working. I don't believe it's a break in the wiring although that may be a possibility I guess.

Thing is I've never used it before, so I can't see it being damaged.

Is there some sort of on and off switch for it, some sort of child protection? or another simply fix?

Or am I off to the local dealership to get it sorted?

Given the workforce that made them, and their reputation for shoddy build quality, I'd say there's a good change of that!

You need to look at a wiring diagram. Is there a Haynes manual?

Is there 12Volts at the rear of the socket?

If so, then its the socket .... if not and fuse is ok then its wiring.

Sadly, it is a 4 year old Land Rover - to get it this far and still running is quite an achievement in itself!

Does it say 12v on the cover? Just thought that knowing LR they might have fitted a dummy socket if you bought a lower spec version

Its got the 12v sign on it, But it is a proper socket not a dummy.

It's got the actual cigarette socket and wiring. Just doesn't work. Can't figure it out. I'm going to pull it apart tomorrow and as someone suggest find out if power is reaching the socket.

Hopefully that will tell me if the socket is broke or theres a break in the wiring from fuse box to socket.
