Default Wheel wobble, but intermittent.

Not on the Scoob, on the wife's Xantia, so posted in nsr.

Starts at 70 mph. Then, it's not there, after about 30 seconds it's back, and so on.................all without altering throttle position, road speed, type of road surface etc. Sometimes it's there at 80, but still as above, (French motorways, before anyone says owt )

It's defo wheel/drive shaft related, as it comes up through the steering wheel and nothing else.

Any ideas welcomed, TIA.

could be that a balance weight has come off the shaft or wheel rim.......inspect the drivetrain !

My Focus is doing exactly the same on the front end, when I'm coimg to a halt if I let the steering wheel go the wheel moves from side to side.

On mine I'm pretty sure it's down to tyre wear & the tyre config, now the tyre is getting low possibly less than a quater of its tread depth left, I think it's out of balance where the tyre material overlaps when constructed.

It's a nightmare

Had this problem on a Pug 306. Was down the the locking wheel nuts being a totally different weight (about 1/4 of the weight) to the standard wheel nuts.

The vibrations would come and go when driving. Sometimes the wheels would be "in sync" and there would be no vibration. As soon as you rounded a bend though, the outside wheel would travel further and go out of sync. The vibrations would come back.

May be worth looking into on yours. My solution was to either balance the wheels while attached to the car, or play hell at the dealers till they found heavier locking wheel nuts

I had the same problem, and it turned out to be the locking wheel nuts.

Standard nuts on my Scoob are very light, whereas my McGuard lock nuts are several times the weight. To cut a long story short, I calculated I needed an extra weight of between 7-12g opposite the lock nut to balance it out. I tried it out with just 5g and this has been enough to sort it.

Richard.

Well, strangley enough, I took it for two new tyres, and it's cured it. How odd?

It DID need the tyres, so no harm done.......
