Drill through the post and use a long bolt with a nut and a couple of washers to sandwich the two halves together.

Sounds like you need to dig out the post and replace it with a new one

Could you not use say TWO jubilee clips opened right out and fastened so that the worm drive on one is gripping the tail of the other and vice-versa?

It's what I used at my gate to "tie" the metal gateposts to the concrete ones that support the fence.

That looks like the closest i can get,its finding jubilee clips that are massive to start with to join them together, otherwise i`d have to join like 10 of them together LOL !!

You can buy jubilee kits you make yourself...as long as you like.

2 big plates and bolts is the best bet.

you know my next question dont you ??

the bolt option is a good one but where i need to brace it it needs to be pretty flat as the gate closes onto the post, with a bolt/plate adding those few extra cm it wouldnt close right, unless i recessed them but then its getting iffy

cheers

Use these from the side of the post away from the gate closing.

If I can get 'em in Scunny, (dregsville), to go round a 6" concrete post AND a 4" steel post at the same time, I'm sure you'll find some. Try motor factors or a good carshop. I use two on each.

Try very long screws to draw the two halves together.

Try two 6" Thunderbolts and a tube of gripfill. Fill the split with gripfill and use one thunderbolt in each side to pull the split in tight. They have big hex heads, so you can put them in with a torque wrench/socket set and scaffold pole to get them really tight. Clean off the excess gripfill and leave for 48 hours until the gripfill is cured. If the heads of the bolts are fouling the gate you can take them out and the gripfill will hold. If you put enough pressure on the thunderbolts they will sink in and you can leave them there. (Put the one on the neighbours side in from the corner of the post at 45 degrees)
