NYC... Again... Ferrys
Sorry peeps
If I get down to the bottom of Manhattan, what's the cheap ferry that takes me around the place called?
Is it the best one to do? I don't want to visit any islands or Liberty, just want a ride on the water and back. (travelling with pensioners and a young boy).
Queue lengths etc to consider as well.
Basically, when I get past ground zero and down to Battery Park, where should I go for a ferry ride (free is best ... unless Q is bad, in which case I'll pay).
TIA

The Staten Island ferry is free, about a 30 min trip i think, when you get to Staten you can either walk about or just get the next ferry back, only thing is thats all its does each trip, straight to Staten Island.
Great to do it at dusk, on the way out the light is just going and you can see the silhouttes of the buildings, on the way back every thing is lit up

Walking south, get to battery park, avoiding all the people selling knock off handbags and head to the left of the park (brooklyn side).
Enter the building, and go upstairs.
No ticket required and it is free- just wait for the doors to open for the nxt boat.
Best view is on the back upper deck. You also get a good view of liberty on the jersey side of the boat. Boat comes straight back- but you have to exit the boat and get back on. You also get decent views of the Verazano bridge.
Battery park is on the downtown 4/5 subway - bowling green, the 1 train - South Ferry, and the R/W train-WhiteHall South Ferry.
I like the ferry- nice place to go and chill out. I do it from time to time.
