Surely the SAS wear dinner suits and ask permission to enter and thank the terrorists for a lovely evening just before having a game of Giant Jenga with a glass of port?

Or if from Liverpool, wear shellsuits fight among themselves and tell each other they love them "seriously" shout at the terrorists their mums are rubbish in bed followed by 30 pints and a kebab?

Nean - Its Deano - I may have been a muppet and registered "dsmith" but that was my work LAN account at the time I used the same-one everywhere. I didn't realise I'd still be using nearly 3 years later or it was so visible

do you use non-standard skins on CS?

if you do do you think its fair?

if you dont is it cause you think its cheatin or is it cause you didnt know you could change them?

and if you didnt know then now you do what do you think?

Tiggs

ps- in case you're not sure what a skin is it allows you to change the way a player appears to you. for example you could alter all the t's to appear in white artic gear and all the ct's to wear bright blue uniform which would make spotting them no easier but it would allow you to distinguish between them faster.

I'm happy with what the original programmers gave us.

I find it stupid & facile to shoot at Mr Blobby or people glowing green

If the idea of skins is to gain some sort of tactical advantage, then that is "almost" legitimate. Depends how far it goes I suppose. An element of the game is concealment & surprise after all.

Red face

an element !

the whole game based on stealth / tactics.

anyone using skins which give them site advantage is a cheat.

pure and simple.

orbv,

are you sure its cheating? on Nov 12th you said about skins- "Non of the tweaks above _I_ would call cheating although changing the skins is getting close. The first think I alway do on cs_italy is shoot the radio "

getting close i'll live with

and to back me up further Norman said "On the subject of player skins, I have all mine standard, in fact, the whole game is standard (no buy scripts or anything) apart from the hossie skins, I just had to have the naked lady skins ).

I dont think people changing player skins for dark/light to make it easier to tell them apart is cheating (I dont usually have a problem apart from sometimes mistaking the 'L337 crew' geezer for a ct in dark areas) unless they're the sort that make the characters bigger or glow or spikey etc."

and neal said "Changing player skins is not really cheating unless you get all the oposition glowing.

I have changed all mine, T are plain clothed and CT are all cammo. Its a bit easier telling whos on your side. You can also get some cracking weapons mods with sounds included.

Check out these sites

Just as it says on the box

http://www.cs-skins.net/

For the simpsons skins and great new maps

http://www.lanmaniax.com/"

interestingly that post also described some console commands which, while i have no issue with, some of you may find interesting?

Have to say I use weapon skins only. Weapons get a bit boring after a while.

Can't be arsed with players skins. I class that as kinda cheating, unless the skin is not much different to the original. Glowing opposition now thats def. cheating.

No more to add.

You can make them glow. It's a server command. I think there is a UK2 server that has it on.

Got my Smilies from Salsa-King that I'll put in the car tomorrow. Makes me more recognisable to fellow Scoobynetters

ok...
It IS cheating in the strictest sense... however I wouldn't mind if ppl exchanged there skins for the other "cam" ones that you can get from skinshack however some of the "bright Green" or "bendy" skins ARE EXTREEME cases of cheating. Bare in mind though these dont effect the hitbox they just aid the visibility of the enemy.

I think the cam ones are still upholding the essence of the game and the players are pretty clear anyway (maybe not so at longrange but hey)

I have a COMPLETELY standard install of cs (although my config is slightly tweaked) because I play so many matches where we run punkbuster and I feel that we should all have the same.

Realy bad mods / cheats are changing the crosshairs to single points which makes hs'in even easyer.

IMHO I dont mind ppl skining (whether guns or models) for some added variaty (mmm need spell check ) as long as you dont kill me

about ten minutes before you posted this thread Steve and I were talking about this very subject. My answer to him was maybe its cheating. In the original post my brain (although not my words) was jumping between cheating and not cheating.

CS is based on a 'real life' model, being one of the first games to include one shot kills, tatics and own team kills.

When was the last time you saw Bin Larden wearing a bright red coat or the SAS dressed all in yellow!

Changing skins is _not_ cheating if the shape / colour of the skins is in the same charator as the original game. In short, if the skins give you an advantage, its cheating.

The feature to make players glow is build into adminmod. Would be nice instead of team killers sitting out a round they glow the first time they killed.

You can make your character glow by typing "glow" and then the colour, this is damn annoying especially when your team members glow red or green as it makes them stick out like a sore thumb. I was playing on a UK2 server last night where every muppet was doing it.

in the search for extra realism would it not be appropriate for all your CT's to dress the same? when was the last time you saw the SAS storm a building all in different clothes? you think they have a "casual" day where they pay a £1 and can dress as they please

ps- home all day and ready to play (except on mikes )

Tiggs,

Switched my network connection on my laptop and I got into the server again, but by the sound of things it may have been spitting everyone off last night. I've just put some settings in the cfg file as well, so see if that makes any difference.

How do you connect at home? Modem/ISDN/Ethernet etc.

When I changed my computer from thinet to Cat5 last night, it stopped working. I'd think there are some issues around auto negotiation between 10/100 full/half. If your on this, peg it and try again.

If your on isdn or modem or some other bizzare offering, then have a look around at possible network settings.
