I liked the Frankenstein bar And we managed to find a decent curry house, but I can't recall what it was called. I liked Aberdeen - seemed like a good place.

There are loads of bars and places to eat near the city centre, so you won't be short of choice! There are something like 100+ pubs within 100 yards of Union Street, though most tend to be at the top end from Belmont Street upwards.
Depends if you want a quiet, traditional type pub, or a nightclub open to 4am with loud music! Most pubs have their own "feel", and attract different clientele. Best to visit quite a few to get a feel for them, and then return to the ones you like.
I can highly recommend the Shahbaaz curry house on Rose Street (just off Union Street) for good food (a bit pricy, but worth it), or Saffron (more modern feel) though most of the curry houses are quite decent.
There are quite a few "eat all you can for £10" places on Union Street, offering Chinese, Indian, Thai food. Most are OK, but the quality can vary.
Chinese: Yu (Unions St), Rendezvous (George St), ChinaTown (Dee Street), Royal China (Holburn St) are all good.
Royal Thai on Crown Terrace serves excelent Thai food, but it is pricy!

Agree with John above. If you stick to the top half of Union St including the Belmont area, you cant go far wrong really. There are two universities here, so plenty of students going about to make the nightlife pretty good.
Contrary to some of the above, it is far from a country backwater. Its boom time at the moment with a lot of money kicking about and property prices rocketing due to the oil industry doing so well. Doesn't make for a cheap pint though

Pubs - Belmont street off Union Street has a lot of busy pubs, Slains Castle (converted church) used to be worth a look just for the atmosphere/theme.
