Question Best stuff to get rid of ear wax?

Mrs has been 3 times to docs for syringe job but it doesn't work. Nurse just says pour in olive oil and come back next week.....

Anyone got any tips for other stuff that might work please? d

Olive oil, just put a bottle in some warm water to warm it up, few drops in the ear and keep it in with cotton wool, it'll help soften things up.

If a syringe is being used then no wonder. It's a specialised medium pressure pulsing warm water jet they should be using.

May be that is what they are using - I was just being careless with wording.

Thanks for other comments.

Almond oil is better than olive oil. I had this problem due to using ear plugs all the time.

Don't use cotton wool to apply, it just pushes the wax further down yer lughole. A pipette with as mentioned warm olive/almond oil is much better. I speak from experience and to had to have the pressure pulsing warm water jet thing in my earole, not nice.

This just happens to be my favorite subject

I went completely mutton in one ear a while back, the doc just binned me off with some over the counter crap, so I bought a 10cc sryinge.

Never push it against your ear so hard that it will restric the water coming out, do it over the sink.

Get a glass of water about as hot as you can mange, suck it up and squirt in softly at first to soften, just switch between ears, alternating, don't go mad.

As the water in the glass cools down, you can start to blast. The spuds that came out of mine were massive, your missus will hear osama bin laden whispering after she's finished

Default Ear wax? Sorted.

One of these should clear any blockage.

Bloody hell!!

That is the best piece of advice I have ever read on the interweb! I have been suffering from this exact problem in one ear, doing the lame olive oil trick to no avail.

Low and behold I have just spent a quality 10 minutes over the sink with a 10ml syringe and a pint glass of warm water and I can hear again. Albeit I do feel a little dizzy, but i am sure that will pass with time.

Thanks Chip

David.....none of the above !

Ask your GP for a referral to the local ENT nurse practitioner

They have a microscope and a very small vacuum device to "hoover" out all of the wax, dead cells and crud.

Sorted

Shaun

PS I didn't think they syringed ears any more !!

Ear Candles !!!

What I hear you all shout. Chinese Ear Candles. Do a search on the net for them. Basically hollow cylinders / straws made of cloth, that you poke into your ear. About 12 inches long, you light the end, and they slowly burn down. Your head has to be laying flat, so the candle is vertical.

The hot air, softens the wax and the natural way the flames pulls the air up, drags out the ear wax.

When I got told this, I laughed and called the guy a ponce. Someone gave me a set, I tried them, and boy, I am shocked at what comes out. I brought a few sets, and use them often. I have hearing like a dog now :-)

Ear Candles ! Go take a look !!!
