thinking of moving
my house is worth around 150000, my mortgage is 50000 over 15 years so this is appx 378
my salary around 1400 after tax my wife around 400 a month.
obviously we have alot of equity in our house we have to small kids and are thinking of moving to a nicer area. its ok where we are now, we have super neighbours but live in wythenshawe.
if we borrowed another say 40k and puit the mortgage back to 25 years, i think the payment would be around 500 a month. it is doable but we would be skint for a good while,
we would have a 90k mortgate which would be a bummer
we dont have any other loans whatsoever and live quite comfartably now, what would you do in my situation
all advice would be welcome
i would do the removal myself as we have a van,. and friends would help
my current house is fully furnished, and i absolutely adore it. just dont like the idea of not being able to afford it ina few years as the kids will be that much older, my wife will gain around 150000 if her parents pass away, in the form of a substanital house but we would rather they were here.
its a nice house probably the nicest on the estate where as we would just have a "normal house" on a nicer estate

I don't really understand why you want to move. You're happy where you are - so stay put. It's SOOOOOO much hassle to move house - only do it if you absoutely must!

iam i love it my neighbours are god parents and bought my lad a bike for his birthday, sixty quid,
when they had new windows (our friends fitted them) he gave me one of his windows, so we can h
ave it in ours, its just that you always try and do better, sister in law lives in a better area and so does mine.
also there is the question of the local high school being a bit iffy around here

We moved house last summer and I swear never, EVER again - unless I absolutely have to. A guy at work just moved too and he's had a complete nightmare! It's only worth going through all that if you really want/ need to to move.

Mate, stay there, for what you will get over and above what you already have wont be worth having and you will be skint, dont count on the in laws 'passing away', creaking gates and all that !

Once you get the bug!!
Remember to take into account possible interest rate rises and all that.
We are moving shortly, but I'm 35 so reasons are getting near to the last chance to go back to 25 years before retiring, adding an extra pot to retirement income (if we trade back down later in life), and getting away from the neighbours kids
Other things to think about, are you saving enough for retirement, maybe up that rather than move.

Why not move FFS
IMHO we should all try to move up the property chain (bigger house and/or better area etc) as soon as we can afford to. As property rises in %ages then the bigger/more expensive your house is the better? Go for it fella as you can afford it.
TX.
[edit - BTW it is expensive to move so look into this cost before you do move. Estate agent, solicitor, stamp duty etc etc].

It's daft to move just because you think you should.
If you will NEED a bigger house in the future, then move to a bigger house.
If you WANT a bigger house but are unsure you can afford it, don't move to a bigger house!
It is a good idea to move up the property ladder as and when you can, but this would usually follow a pay rise, new job or promotion, and the demands from new members of the family. It is not essential to keep up with the Jones', although this is a natural urge!
It's all relative and the value of your house does not determine your wealth or status! Just ask PSLEWIS, he's a common pykey with a thousand houses, but still a common pykey!
If you don't have to, and don't need to move, don't! You will regret it!

i could go to another 40k i did the sums yesterday, (but i wont tell them that of course ).
my job is salot more stable than it used to be. so i think we will sit and wait.
mine van only go up in 3-4 months cant it.

just to update you,
the house we were thinking of has cople of cracks in it whcih are putting us off,
we have talked it over and are going to save up 3-4k to pay for the costs of the moving ourselves, this will take 11-12 months, sell are car and buy a little runaround,
my house will go up, and so will one we purchase by a similar amount.
but my salry will increase by then so hopefully we should have some spare cash around for the little not thought of emergencies that will crop up.
weve done the hardest bit by deciding to move,

Consider the scenario that house prices go down, and you can then trade-up to a nicer house yet the price difference will shrink.
Sounds like you've got it good where you are as well, but at the end of the days its your choice mate!
