Has Top Gear gone down the pan?
Watched top gear last night and apart from the piece on the Lambo canme to the conclusion that it isn't really a car program at all. Surely they can put together some pieces about other new cars or cars under development rather than rely on inviting celebs to drive a naff car and set up stupid stunts like tractor driving

Yeah I will go along wth you on most of that, the banter last night was excellent but the tractor stuff and all that is a bit stupid, like you say a few more concept cars and comparison type features would be a step in the right direction and now Jezzas most desirable Woman has been round the track in that heap its time to move on to something fresh I think.
Mind you no matter how bad it gets it could never be as naff as 5th Gear now that is shocking!! WTF is that Lanky blond e bloke doing on a car show, he is just a **** who watches football and has no idea about cars, and I wish he would just get on with it and push one in VBH and get it over and done with.

It used to be a better motoring show when that's all it dealt with, motoring. It maybe be a more widely watched and 'entertaining' show now, but that's not to say it's 'better' than times past when all you want to see is a car show.
TopGear is more like a cross between Noel's House Party and Scrapheap Challenge.

I think this series has proved that they're not the best at scripted sit-com.
Presenters they are, actors they are not. Still a good watch though.

I disagreed in a similar thread just after the america trip - i thought it was excellent and am more than happy to watch a 'road-trip' every now and again.
Having said that after last night i would be happier seeing reviews of the 'proper cars' lie the lambo etc that have come out since the series has been off air - there have been a few in this time!

Anyhow, I like the next person like to see a smattering of very rare and expensive sports cars been tested, but the only car based presenting that seems to take place concerns the top .01% of cars, the likes of which will only be driven by a handful of people.
There is no mention of second hand sales or older cars, something that for example Quentin Willson brought to the programme. Just to ignore large swathes of sales/cars interest and concentrate on money shots of the most expensive cars money can buy is a huge mistake.
There seems to be a snobbism from the presenters who seem to drive top of the range new Porsches and the like. Some conclusion has been made that us plebs must either own these cars or spend our every waking moment aspiring to own one.

I was about to start this thread myself.
Dont get me wrong, its great entertainment, but in 1 month they have only featured 2 or 3 cars that no one in the real world can afford. There have been loads of new cars released lately that have been reviewed in every magazine on sale but havnt seen the light of day on TG. The other thing is the obvious way some of the stunts are set up, TG used to be unpredictable and feel real but everthing these days is just a sitcom style set up.
Entertaining but very disappointing

I think if they started putting in too many ordinary cars or second hand cars people would get bored of the show then they pull the plug. All we'd be left with is that load of tripe called fifth gear

I made a thread about Top Gear last night after that episode. I totally agree, the program is unfortunately going down the pan. I don't mind a bit of sillyness, but when the entire program revolves around it, it becomes a little tiresome.
I just want to see more stupidly fast cars being driven/raced at silly speeds. The last couple of series had it spot on.

Its a very funny show to watch, look forward to sundays. The plugging they are letting the guests do now is annoying but apart from that top show.
I don't want to watch a programme thats doing a new car test on the latest Korean 5 door super dooper mini that does 78mpg. That would be like going back to the dark ages of Top Gear with William Woolard and the other weird one with the beard.

Gotta disagree.
I think it's good. Have laughed at every episode. Yeah, it's not so motor focused, but it's entertaining and the wifey even likes it.
They make a great team and we get to compare how quick cars are etc so it's two of these from me

Am I the only one who found the Kristen Scot-Thomas interview butt-clenchingly embarrassing?
She's pretty much a total PITA/Diva anyway. No interest in cars at all. Worst star in a reasonably-priced car ever. She was just a total let down, after Jezza building her up over the last few years. And he can't interview to save his life!!
Aside from that bit of train-crash TV, wasn't bad. Not so much a car show, but good entertainment though :-) My hopes are that this was a blip......
