Steve....calm down mate.
I admit I was getting some flukey kills but other nights I can't hit a thing.
A lot of it is down to ping times.
I hope BT pull their head out their ar$e and admit you can have ASDL.

I didn't even have a modem when they were out
I can understand your fustration though m8. I can't get ADSL even though the exchange is 2 miles away
NTL still haven't responded to my email I sent on Thursday.
My ping maybe low by your standards but I should be getting 40-50 instead of 135-180. At least you aren't paying for a service you aren't getting
Matt
I'm off to bed now, only popped on Mikes server cause I saw you all playing, that was 10:30 not its 0:45. My eyes! my eyes!

Likewise Steve I am about 2 miles from the local exchange - though I think they are shutting it down I could be wrong
I am stuck with a 56k modem that operates at 33kbps!!! And that is on a good day, numerous times I have asked BT to turn the gain up.........cr@p

Apologies for my drunken state whilst playing CS last night (I had been drowning my sorrows after Leeds beat Blackburn (luckily)).
I was suffering from 10-20 second freezes last night, no idea why, my ISDN has been gr8 recently apart from last night.
The ping seemed to be constantly around 80 even just before and after I got the freezes.
Steve, I know it's expensive but ISDN is soooo much better than 56k, makes CS worth playing asgain.

dont see the point norm.
i dont feels its enough of an improvement over 56k to justify the cost.
and it'll make upgrading to cable / adsl more problematic from all i hear.

Which of you guys said they had a 100fps rate? Mine is only 60fps and I wanna get it higher. I got a 1.4ghz comp with 64meg graphics card and 256meg ram, you reckon I can get it up to 100fps? I have got a 2 meg connection to the internet also

When you are in the game get the console down and type 'net_graph 1' this will tell you your fps and you connection speed etc in the bottom right. You can also see if the connection drops etc

ISDN is worlds apart from 56K for gaming - its digital so the latency of the connection is not that much more than ADSL, and miles ahead of analogue modems
In general the ISDN connectivity of the various ISPs is also far better as there is less contention. (My freeserve account sometimes takes a min or so to connect which I guess is when it has to retry - except one retry takes a couple of secs - not 30/40 like a modem)
If the difference isn't enough - why complain so much that we are all LPBs !
HH is now £26 / Month, that includes your 1st line so with 1st line rental currently @ 31.49 /quarter (10.49 / Month) thats an extra £15.50 a month.
Internet call charges will be exactly as per they are now. (exlcuding any surf together bollox).
So common steve, trust me the difference is worth £15 a month - and you get a second phone line so the wife can phone her friends when you're playing C/S

Well thought I had it. Tele2 told me they were moving to that area now, then phoned me back to say ooops, no where not. BT have now stopped rollout of ADSL to exchanges so Your local BT exchange (Pinhoe) is not going to be converted to ADSL, unless they get a large number of request for it to be done. NTL will be there, but my mate on the inside cannot find the schedule yet, he will get back to me. ISDN will be FARRRR better than 56k modem, remember that 56modems are not true 56k the are only a max of 33.6 between the exchange an you. Ofcourse ther is always satalite broadband.
Go to http://www.broadband-help.com for more info. there are some two way satalite broadband compainies now, may be worth a go, not sure how well sat would work with online gaming though. Looks like your stuck with ISDN, but is vastly superior to analogue modem.

Nooooo, don't even touch satelite broadband, it may be fast but the latency for the signal going to the sat and back down will be at least a couple thousand ms. Not good for online gaming but fine for web surfing.

HHxx that's what I thought, hence the coment about it's possible unsuitability for online gaming. Interesting to see if Tele2 is anybetter, though I have heared reports from people who use them, that they are great.
