Unhappy Flies

What is the best way of getting rid of them?

What with the pretty mild last couple of winters, flies have had a bit of a boom. In the upstairs of our garage, you only have to increase the heat a wee bit to have loads of flies the next day

If you fail to keep the windows open, the whole place is buzzing with the ******* in no time

Obviously the blue zappy thing can help but there are hundreds of them.

Help!

Google "Cluster Flies". We had some in the attic before we renovated, so the builder did some some re-pointing work on the outside walls and they never came back!

What kind of flies, Puff? If you've got the windows closed, they must be coming from inside. If they're bluebottles or houseflies, there must be an animal corpse somewhere, or some other organic rubbish that they're breeding in. If it's some other type of fly, have you ever stored bales of hay or straw in the garage?

Can I just say, I'm a joiner, not a fly eradication professional.

Sound like cluster flies - we have them - House is a new build, in the country surrounded by fields with cow crap. You need to smoke bomb the attic now, then do it every couple of months thereafter.

Cluster flies breed in cow **** and then the larvae feed on earthworms. When they hatch/mutate/mature they find somewhere warm and dry to live, which is generally the closest attic they can find. We have been using the industrial version of fortefog, which kills them all, but they always come back. As Suresh says, any fault in pointing, soffits and facias will let them in, but if you are in a new build in the country the ventilation that BC regs require will let them in anyway. We got a pest controler to look at our problem and he reckons that continuous use of Monster Fly Trap. Garden pest control supplies pest management fly control should control the problem
