Default Automotive Autopilot

Do you think it will happen, when, is it possible at all ?

Was stuck driving home 30 miles in **** weather, stuck in traffic, really fancied being able to retire to the back seat to read my book or have a kip.

I suppose if you took a 150 quid SatNav unit back to 1985 it would seem like science fiction so what will be available in another 22 years ?

Discuss !

I think car trains will happen before fully autonomous cars. That is cars which drive normally but can electronically lock into formation in a 'train lane' at a high speed and with a very small gap between them

Public transport.... what a nightmare. The only way you're going to be able to coax people out of their cars is by offering the privacy that you get out of running your own vehicle.

Your choice of music, at the volume you want

No smelly, alcohol-soaked **** sitting next to you and, God forbid, trying to engage you in conversation

No groups of chavvy teenagers conversing FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE AUDIENCE on the back seat

A comfortable temperature, decided by yourself

There are others, but I'm too drunk to think of them at the moment.

Good Lord; are these the conditions of public transport?

I find driving a joy still when i am not stuck in traffic of course. An autpilot would be incredibly boring!

So, you wouldnt want the option of the car driving you home after a session or dealing with a big queue on the M6 ?

Don't really know J4CKO, maybe it would help if you weren't worried in case the system failed without warning. Only autopilots I have used needed continual monitoring. Hard to say what will happen in the future of course, maybe car trains as someone said or possibly even that only those who are "more equal" may be allowed on the roads anyway!

They never have liked us to have all that personal freedom.
